Stockholm : Two people died and one was seriously injured in a lifeboat accident onboard a container freight ship in the Baltic Sea late Wednesday, AP quoted officials as saying.
The accident was on Panama-registered MSC India south of Karlskrona in Sweden, sea rescue spokesman Mathias Hansson said.
Hansson said two of the men were Indian and a third Pakistani. It was not clear which of the three had died.
A life rescue boat with three people onboard fell several meters (feet) from the ship and two of the men were immediately knocked unconscious, Hansson said.
The circumstances behind the accident remained unclear.
Karlskrona hospital spokeswoman Madeleine Flood said one of the men was already dead upon arrival at hospital, while the second died during surgery. She said the condition of the third man was serious but stable Wednesday night.
