Shimla : Vidya Stokes was Thursday appointed leader of the new Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Himachal Pradesh assembly.
Stokes, 82, a legislator from Kumarsain constituency, has previously been speaker of the state assembly.
Her appointment comes a day before the winter session of the assembly starts in Dharamsala. The session will have two sittings, in which the newly elected legislators in the 68-member house will take oath.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the assembly polls late last month by winning 41 of the 68 seats. The Congress got 23 and the remaining four went to others.
