Moscow : Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday the foreign policy of his country gave priority to the development of Russia’s ties with the Muslim world.
He made the statement during his meeting with ambassadors of Arab and Muslim countries in Moscow on the occasion of the new “Hijri” Year (Islamic lunar calendar).
“The Russian foreign policy aims to establish new multi-polar world,” the Russian chief diplomat said.
“Russia does not see any political or ideological differences with the Muslim countries.
“It, rather considers the Muslim countries its allies in the war against terrorism,” he told his guests.
“Russia intends to partake in the coming summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference, due in Dakar, Senegal, in March,” Lavrov affirmed.
Russia joined the 56-member group as an observer in July, 2005.
