United Nations : Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon late Friday welcomed Japan’s decision to resume its activities in support of the international efforts to assist the Afghan Government to bring security and development to its people, his press office said in a statement.
It added that Ban noted the challenges that Afghanistan and the international community faced in 2007, and is “thankful to all those Member States contributing troops and assets to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and international forces in Afghanistan.
Japan’s parliament enacted Friday a legislation authorizing its Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) to resume refueling operations in the Indian Ocean, setting to resume logistical support for the US-led anti-terrorism campaign in and around Afghanistan as early as mid-February after a three-month hiatus.
