Canberra : Virender Sehwag and Dinesh Karthik regained their form while Yuvraj Singh’s poor run with the bat continued as Indians drew their three-day practice match with Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Invitational XI at the Manuka Oval here Saturday.
India made 281 for four in the second innings and set a target of 315 for the ACT, who batted for 17 overs in the final session before deciding to settle for a draw.
Sehwag hit a 73-ball 113 and Karthik made a patient 97 in the second innings and threw another option regarding the opening slot for the Indian team.
Yuvraj, however, made his matters worse and his chances of playing in the third Test seems slim as he could manage just four runs.
Sehwag and Karthik added 158 for the opening stand. Sehwag punished the bowlers severely and hammered 18 fours and two sixes en-route to his 113. He smacked three fours off left-arm seamer Ash Perera’s first over and was lucky to get a life on 16, when Richard Sherlock failed to take a regulation catch at square leg. Sehwag made the most of the luck and brought up his century with a flick through square. He fell trying to glide Mark Higgs’ left-arm spin, angling the ball into the wicketkeeper’s gloves.
During Sehwag’s fiery innings Karthik on the other end was playing the second fiddle but still hit few crisp strokes to get moving. He got a life when he was dropped on 19 by wicketkeeper James Crosthwaite off Bulger. He fell three short of a century when he was trapped LBW by Bulger.
