Shimla : An Italian engineering working on the Parbati hydel project in Himachal Pradesh was severely beaten up by a group of masked men who accosted him on a highway, police said Monday.
Lavilla, the vice president of Gammon India company that is building the Parbati hydel project, was driving from Chandigarh to Kullu Sunday when a speeding car overtook his car in a tunnel near Aut in Mandi district, about 190 km from here.
“A gun was pointed at my temple and the four men beat me up brutally,” Lavilla was quoted as saying by local media Monday.
The Italian national was initially admitted to a hospital in Mandi, but was shifted to New Delhi Monday.
It is unclear why Lavilla was attacked. The police have detained his driver for questioning.
