Ramallah : Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has welcomed US President George W. Bush’s call for Palestinians to abide by the Road Map plan, ending all sorts of attacks on Israel.

He told the Israeli cabinet Sunday that he and Bush focused during their talks on the two-state solution, indicating that any future plans must include the Gaza Strip which is controlled by the Hamas movement.

Olmert called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to end the Hamas control of Gaza in accordance with the Road Map peace plan.

During his visit to Israel, Bush called on Abbas to put an end to rocket attacks launched from Gaza, linking further peace talks with the halt of operations against Israel.

On their part, the Palestinians indicated that the first stage of the Road Map must be implemented with Israel stopping settlements from spreading and opening Palestinian institutions in Jerusalem.
