UPA will delay Lok Sabha polls: Modi

Guruvayoor (Kerala) : After weighing all of 92 kg against lotus flowers at the Sree Krishna Temple here and proving he was no lightweight, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said Monday that the ruling UPA would “prefer” delaying general elections.

“The setbacks that they received in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have forced them not to go ahead with a snap poll. They know about it and would prefer delaying the polls,” said Modi, who offered prayers at the famous temple early Monday morning.

He told reporters that the Left parties in Delhi were enjoying power without responsibility and would not do anything to alter that.

Modi, who was on a personal visit to the temple and left for a Pongal lunch with former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha in Chennai, had arrived here at 4.15 a.m.

Temple official R. Narayanan said Modi first offered a small silver lamp. He was also weighed against lotus flowers and plantains.

“He offered two separate ‘tulabarams’ using lotus flowers and ‘kathalipazham’ (a high quality plantain) and everything was over by 5.15 a.m.,” Narayanan told IANS.
