New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Monday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following a revision petition filed by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bangaru Laxman, accused of corruption in a sting operation in 2001.
Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul asked the CBI to reply by March 27 as to why complete documents pertaining to the case were not supplied to Laxman, as alleged by him.
In the expose carried out by the Tehelka news website, Laxman was shown as accepting money from journalists posing as arms dealers.
In his petition, Laxman alleged that he was not supplied with documents including some video tapes, used as a piece of evidence by the investigating agency against him.
Laxman’s lawyers Sunil Kumar and Manish Mohan submitted before the court that neither all the tapes nor equipment, specifically mentioned by the CBI in the list of documents filed along with the charge sheets in July 2006, had been supplied to him till now.
Laxman’s petition also demanded the cancellation of a first information report (FIR) against him in the corruption case.
However, the court refused to stay the proceedings against the BJP leader in the trial court.
