Hyderabad: A delegation of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) is planning to visit Hyderabad to meet victims of Hyderabad bomb blasts and those Muslim youth arrested in the aftermath.
Information released by the Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Finance Corporation states that delegation is headed by M. Pinto, Vice Chairperson of the NCM. Other members of the delegation are Dileep Padgaonkar, Prof. Zoya Hasan and Harcharan Singh Josh.
The delegation will visit Hyderabad from 17th to 18th January 2008. “The delegation will interact with the blast victims, visit the jail where suspects are lodged and also interact with the NGOs and members of Minority communities,” according to the information released by the State Minorities Finance Corporation.
A number of Muslim youths were illegally detained in the aftermath of bomb blasts in Hyderabad. On 18 May 2007, bomb blast in Mecca Masjid killed 16 Muslims gathered there for Friday prayers, subsequent police firing killed 5 more Muslims.
On 25 August 2007, two bomb blasts killed 42. One bomb blast occurred at Lumbini Amusement Park and the other at Gokul Chat Bhandar, a popular snack shop.
Human rights organizations alleged that more than 50 Muslim youths were illegally detained by AP police and brutally tortured.
Members of the delegation are also to discuss issues relating to Christians of the state.
