Six killed in household gas blast in south Russia

Moscow : At least six people were killed when a household gas pipe exploded in south Russia’s Stavropol territory in the early hours of Monday, local emergency services reported.

The blast went off at 2:18 a.m. in a five-storey apartment block in the town of Zheleznovodsk. The victims included a four-month-old girl.

A total of 58 people have been evacuated to safety from the building, of these three are being treated in hospital. Rescuers believe there are no more people trapped in the rubble.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
