Manila : Two shipyard workers were killed while three others were injured in an explosion at a dry dock owned by South Korean shipbuilder Hanjin in northern Philippines at Friday noon, local media reported.
The two fatalities were identified as Hermias Adamos, 30, and Mario Laxamana, 32, according to local television network ABS-CBN News, adding that the three others “suffered sever burns” when theblast rocked in Subic Bay Freeport area in northern Philippine province of Zambales. The wounded are being treated at James. L. Gordon Hospital nearby.
Local police superintender Cesar Jacob told ABS-CBN that the blast occurred inside the ship assembly line when workers “dropped a flaming or hot welding rod” that hit the “oily portion” of a half-finished ship.
He said the investigation is still going on.
