Raipur : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers clashed with Samajwadi Party activists in the Chhattisgarh capital late Friday evening after the latter protested Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s visit here.

Dozens of Samajwadi Party activists thronged Raipur’s Mana airport to oppose the visit of Mayawati, who landed here Friday evening on a two-day visit to the state.

Samajwadi Party activists showed black flags to the BSP supremo at the airport but the BSP cadres, who had reached airport to receive Mayawati, could not retaliate as police cleared the route for her convoy to the VIP Rest House from the airport.

But at about 8 p.m., hundreds of BSP workers stormed into the residence of Balram Singh, state Samajwadi Party president, at Rajendra Nagar and ransacked his house and set his Maruti Swift car on fire.

The situation worsened when upon getting the news, several Samajwadi Party workers reached Singh’s house and clashed with the BSP workers.

The police immediately reached the site and controlled the situation.
