Gaza : Israeli authorities closed on Friday all checkpoints around Gaza and declared the procedure would last only for a few days.
“The crossings’ closure came in implementation of Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s orders who vowed that he would allow people and goods transportation from and into the strip only in emergency cases,” a spokesman of the Israeli Army said in a statement.
He affirmed that the closure will include all the crossings, noting that Barak took the step in retaliation for ongoing missile attacks from the Palestinian territories on Israeli targets.
The Israeli authorities usually allow Gazans to travel to the West Bank through the Erez crossing while they can be hospitalized through Nahal Oz rossing, east of Gaza. Goods are sent in via Abu Karam crossing east of the border town of Rafah.
