Shimla : People here awoke to a bone-chilling morning Monday with the city recording the coldest night of the season, as the mercury plummeted to minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.
Despite sun shining brightly, there was no respite from the cold as icy winds kept blowing.
This was the second consecutive freezing night in Shimla after a spell of wet weather ended over the weekend.
In Kalpa, the headquarters of the tribal district of Kinnaur, the mercury fell to minus 11.2 degrees Celsius.
Chilly conditions continued to prevail in the high mountain region of Lahaul and Spiti regions bordering Tibet, where the minimum temperature was lower than minus 20 at several places.
Lahaul, Spiti, Kinnaur, Bharmaur and Dodra-Kwar regions are under several feet of snow and remain cut off from the rest of the world.
