Most Gazans spend night without power

By KUNA

Gaza : Most Gazans spent the night without electricity after a power station shut down due to lack of fuel resulting from the tight Israeli siege on the strip.

An official of the health ministry in a statement on Monday warned that total power outage in the strip would lead to enormous health and living problems.

A hospital, called “the European Hospital, located in the border town of Rafah, may stop functioning and serving hundreds of thousands of people, as a result of the shortage of fuel, he said.

Most hospitals in the strip declared halting regular surgeries and restricting work to emergency cases as a result of the depleting energy resources.

Adnan Abu Hassanah, the spokesman of the international relief agency, UNRWA, said conditions in Gaza were turning tragic and deteriorating rapidly. Most gas stations and backeries have shut down “and we do not know how the Palestinians in the region will manage to survive if these conditions persist.” Israel has imposed a tight siege on Gaza in retaliation for recurring missile attacks targeting the south of Israel.
