Baghdad : A suicide bomber attacked mourners at a funeral ceremony in the northern Iraqi city of Bayji, killing at least 13 people and wounding 15, according to a local security official.
The funeral Monday evening was for a relative of the deputy governor of Salahaddin in Bayji, a security official told the Voices of Iraq news agency.
The attack took place in the predominantly Sunni village of Hajaj, west of Bayji, around 200 km north of Baghdad.
The US military said its large-scale security operations against Al Qaeda fighters and insurgents belonging to Sunni extremist groups in Baghdad and Diyala have forced them to regroup in Sunni-dominated northern provinces.
