Hamas says pro-Abbas forces arrest two members in West Bank

By Xinhua

Ramallah : The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Thursday said Palestinian security forces arrested two members of its movement in West Bank.

The two men were detained in Nablus and Ramallah cities. They were made as part of a crackdown on Hamas supporters in the West Bank launched by the security forces which report to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah.

The detentions were meant to prevent Hamas from taking over the West Bank by force. In June, Hamas has seized control of Gaza Strip after fierce fighting with pro-Abbas security services.

In a statement sent to the press, Hamas said the detentions were coordinated between the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and the Israeli army.

During overnight raids, the Israeli troops detained seven Palestinians in Hebron city. An eighth man was detained in Nablus, according to Palestinian security sources.
