Tamulpur (Assam, India) : Thirty-eight ULFA militants, including a woman cadre, Thursday surrendered before the army here in Assam’s Baksa district.
The militants led by Nayan Kakoti surrendered before the GOC 4 Corps Lt Gen B S Jamwal at 21 Mountain Brigade Headquarters of Red Horn Division.
The surrendered militants laid down 27 pistols, 18 grenades, 22 detonators, 30 kgs of explosives and 150 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Jamwal said the army was trying to bring back misguided youths to the mainstream as insurgency cannot bring any solution.
The GOC further said that some top militants are interested in surrendering.
Assam Director General of Police R N Mathur, who attended the ceremony, said the move would encourage other militants to return to the mainstream.
