Islamabad : Unidentified gunmen killed a leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) and two others in northwestern Pakistan Thursday.
Zakir Khan came under attack at Matta town in Swat Valley of North West Frontier Province when he was travelling in his car with his brother and another colleague, who were also killed in the attack, News Network International news agency reported.
Three other people in the vehicle were injured in the attack, police said.
The Awami National Party is a centre-left nationalist outfit with a large following among the Pashtuns in NWFP, Balochistan, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Western Punjab and Northern Areas.
Zakir Khan, deputy mayor of Matta, had been a strong supporter of the army’s anti-terror operations in the Swat valley.
No group claimed responsibility of the attack.
Militants killed another ANP leader in the same area last week for his support of the government’s crackdown on militants.
