French university signs accord on students exchange

New Delhi : Students enrolled in humanities courses at St. Stephens College of the University of Delhi and at the University of Madras will get a chance to complete a year of their studies at a reputed French university under a student exchange programme.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed Saturday by Richard Descoings, the president of Sciences Po Paris – a French University carrying out research studies in social sciences.

Descoings was accompanying French President Nicolas Sarkozy on his two-day state visit to India.

Sciences Po Paris has introduced courses in English and has hiked the number of scholarships to be offered to foreign students to attract greater number of students from India.

Under the agreements, students of the two Indian universities will go to Sciences Po Paris to study for a full year. Similarly students from the French university will come to study at the two Indian universities.

Sciences Po Paris already has similar arrangements with Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, University of Pune, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Institute of Development Studies, Kolkata.
