Iran, Iraq sign accord on environment protection

Tehran : Iran and Iraq have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of environment protection, IRNA news agency reported Sunday.

The agreement was signed here by head of Iran’s department of Environment, Fatemeh Vaez-Javadi, and Iraqi Minister of Environment Nermin Othman.

Speaking to reporters prior to signing the agreement, the Iranian minister said the document would facilitate Tehran-Baghdad cooperation for protection of their natural resources.

According to the agreement, the two parties would cooperate on industrial pollution control, enforce ban on hunting along Iran-Iraq border and campaign against wildlife epidemics.

The minister added that promotion of eco-tourism, studying soil, water and air pollution caused by oil production as well as environmental damage caused by wars were other topics of the agreement.
