Tehran : Iran has said that there is no place for nuclear weapons in its defensive nuclear doctrine.

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki made this statement Saturday while speaking at a special meeting titled “Understanding Iran’s foreign policy” organised on the sidelines of the 38th meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, official IRNA news agency reported Sunday.

“We believe that if atomic weapons could prevent crisis, they would have prevented many crises in the past,” Mottaki said, and added, “For example, the Zionist regime, by having more than 200 nuclear warheads, could win war in Lebanon.”

“Those who test new generations of atomic weapons should answer why they are looking for more competition in the atomic arsenal,” Mottaki said.

Answering a question why Iran wants to produce nuclear fuel, Mottaki said it was necessary because power plants cannot operate without nuclear fuels.

He stressed that Iran’s positions on nuclear weapons is clear and stressed, “We are not looking for a nuclear arsenal.”

More than 2,500 personalities from 88 countries attended the five-day World Economic Forum, which started Wednesday in Davos.
