Adelaide : Australia’s retiring wicket-keeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist Monday predicted a bright future for the Indian cricket team and termed the young tearaway fast bowler Ishant Sharma as a great find for the visitors.
“The Indian team is high up there. This time they have played a really competitive game of cricket. Ishant Sharma has turned out to be a really lethal bowler along with Irfan Pathan and Rudra Pratap Singh. The Indians have wonderful spin bowling unit too. So, there is exciting times ahead of India,” he said,
An emotional Gilchrist, who stunned the cricketing world with the announcement Sunday of his retirement from international cricket at the end of the triangular series with just four Tests short of playing 100 Tests, conceded that the decision has been tough for him.
“It was a very big decision, to walk way from something you love. Retirement has to be well thought out decision and has to come when the moment is right. I spent a number of days thinking about it, discussing it with my wife Mel, my family members and a few close friends. When I did realise it, I was quite emotional and upset,” he said.
“But I feel good now and will take time to reflect on my career. I want to thank everyone and the game for the wonderful journey. I enjoyed myself and I hope others too have enjoyed with me,” added Gilchrist.
