Inter Milan draw after eight straight wins in Serie A

Milan : Serie A leaders Inter Milan broke an eight-game winning run as they settled for a barren draw at Udinese, after being reduced to 10 men.

In other matches Sunday, third-place Juventus advanced to 40 points thanks to a 3-1 win at 10-man Livorno, with Frenchman David Trezeguet scoring a brace to go top among the league’s strikers on 15 goals.

Inter remained unbeaten and ran minor risks in their afternoon game in Udinese despite the dismissal in the 21st minute of Brazilian midfielder Cesar, who received two bookings in one minute.

Early in the game, defender Andrea Dossena fired a low, long-range drive for the hosts, before Esteban Cambiasso missed a big chance for Inter on 12 minutes, firing high after some good build-up work by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Julio Cruz also fired wide in the 41st minute as Ibra set him up in the area and, right after the break, the hosts’ goalkeeper Samir Handanovic offered an ill-conceived feed to Ibra but managed to save the following shot from Cruz.

Ibra threatened again with a wide free kick and a fierce, post-grazing shot, while Udinese strikers Antonio Di Natale and Fabio Quagliarella each missed a couple of chances.

Fiorentina won their Tuscany derby with Empoli 2-0 to remain third on 37 points, four above Udinese. Romanian striker Adrian Mutu scored the opening goal and drew level on 13 goals with Ibrahimovic as second-highest scorer.
