UAE to be linked to WHO’s regional health alert system

Dubai : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be linked to a “regional alert system” of the World Health Organisation (WHO) by the year-end, a senior official has said.

The regional alert system would help the UAE to be part of the immediate reporting system for the region, said Najeeb Al Shorbaji, coordinator of knowledge management and sharing at WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, WAM news agency reported Wednesday.

“WHO is providing the regional countries with the software and training for the project, which has already been launched as a pilot project in Tunisia. The GCC countries will be linked to it once the executive board of the GCC Health Ministers’ Council approves it,” Al Shorbaji said.

The system will help in reporting disease outbreaks, health facilities, human resources and material resources in the healthcare field along with regular reporting of various diseases, he said.

“The health ministries in respective countries will own the data, which will be hosted by the WHO’s server. These data will be available online. However, some specific confidential data will not be accessible to the public,” Al Shorbaji added.
