GENEVA, Jan 30 (KUNA) — US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment in the Bureau of Oceans Daniel Reifsnyder said Wednesday that countries from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) showed interest in the whole issue of Carbon Capture Storage. He added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is involved in this kind of program and cooperation. Reifsnyder explained that this field of cooperation is related to developing research and technology ahead. He added that there is more interest in the oil industry in pumping Carbon Dioxide into depleted oil wells to capture more oil because it is better known in the oil industry than in the gas industry where it is not used as a recovery technique. The oil industry people, he added, are more aware of this technique. Reifsnyder was answering questions from the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of a lecture he gave on US efforts to enhance energy conservation and efficiency.
