New Delhi : The term of the commission probing the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was Tuesday extended by three months more.
It was for the 46th time that the commission’s tenure was extended, said a home ministry release. Its term would now expire Sep 30.
“The commission is inquiring into the destruction of the Ram Janma Bhoomi-Babri Masjid structure at Ayodhya on Dec 6, 1992,” it said.
The commission, headed by Justice Liberhan, was constituted Dec 16, 1992, ten days after a mob pulled down the disputed structure on Dec 6, 1992.
Mandated to inquire into the circumstances leading to the demolition of the Babri Mosque, it was expected to submit its report by March 16, 1993.
The last extension for two months ended June 30.
