Drug smugglers’ gang lands at wrong station, arrested

By IANS,

Chennai : A mistake in identifying a railway station landed four members of a marijuana smuggling gang from Andhra Pradesh in the police net here, the police said Wednesday.

About 60 kg of ganja (marijuana) worth Rs.600,000 in the local market, concealed in four large suitcases, were seized.

The police said normally, the gang members disembarked at the Basin Bridge junction and walked away. But, Tuesday night they got down at Ennore station, which is not a busy station.

The four were seen with heavy suitcases, and this raised suspicion. They were arrested by the police.

The arrested men – Pandyarajan (32), Sethuram (31), Jayam Ravi (19) and Suresh (36) – are from Madurai.

They told the police that they got the drugs regularly from a group at Tuni, near Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, and transported these to Tamil Nadu by train.
