Jordan’s King to be first Arab Leader to visit Baghdad after Saddam’s downfall

By NNN-KUNA,

Baghdad : Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has announced that Jordanian King Abdullah II will be visiting Baghdad soon, making him the first Arab leader to visit to the Iraqi capital since the downfall of the former regime of Saddam Hussein.

Speaking to the press Wednesday, Zebari indicated that Iraq was developing diplomatically on the regional and international scene, saying that the King’s visit was an indicator to such development.

However, Zebari did not reveal the agenda of King Abdullah’s visit to Baghdad.

Jordan and Iraq managed to score a deal during Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki’s visit to Amman. The deal entails that Jordan provides Iraq with crude oil with preferential prices for three years.

Jordan also named Naif Al-Zaidan as ambassador to Iraq.

Zebari affirmed that Iraq was heading on to more diplomatic openness due to the Iraqi government’s keenness to enhance and boost relations with Arab and foreign countries.

Several Arab countries indicated that they were ready to send ambassadors to Iraq, revealed Zebari, who noted that the Iraqi prime minister would embark on a visit to Europe and Jordan soon.
