Mayawati’s distance from BJP a pretence: Samajwadi Party

By IANS,

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati was pretending to distance herself from the Bharatiya Janata Party to solicit support from the Muslim voters, the Samajwadi Party’s state unit acting president Shivpal Singh Yadav alleged here Wednesday.

“Mayawati and her BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) government are anti-Muslim. The fact that Mayawati actively participated in the election campaign of BJP leader Narendra Modi in Gujarat shows BSP-BJP closeness and the party’s anti-Muslim policy,” Yadav told reporters.

He said that since Mayawati has formed her government three times by joining hands with BJP, no one should believe her claims to not have an alliance with the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he added.

Yadav said that SP would hold protests against the state government’s move to “grab” a piece of land for setting up a university for the handicapped.

“A decades-old mosque stands on the land where the government plans to establish the varsity. Our protest against the land grab will start from tomorrow (Thursday),” he added.
