Kabul : A US forces helicopter was shot down in the neighbourhood of the Afghan capital, the military said on Wednesday.
The US military says no one was killed in the downing of the helicopter which was brought down by a rocket attack.
A statement from the coalition forces’ Bagram base said the accident resulted from small arms fire in Kharwar district of the country’s central Logar province on Wednesday morning.
The statement said the pilot managed to land the helicopter safely after the attack and evacuate all staff before the chopper caught fire.
It further says the incident, involving a Blackhawk helicopter, was being investigated by the military.
Last month, a coaition forces’ helicopter was shot down in the mountainous province of Kunar. The military had said that two of its soldiers suffered injureis.
Another coalition helicopter crashed in Kandahar province killing two soldiers the same month. Seven US soldiers were killed in a similar incident in Afghanistan’s troubled province of Helmand last year.
Located close to the central capital Kabul, Afghanistan’s Logar province is witnessing a spike in insurgency for several months now.
Two days back, armed militants kidnapped three policemen in Mohammad Agha district of the same province and their beheaded bodies were found in the area the next morning.
