US should change mentalities, correct misconceptions: Larijani

By IRNA,

Tehran : Iran’s Parliament Speaker said under current conditions US would face a dead end in region, advising them to change their mentalities and correct their misconceptions if they are after changing Middle East’s status.

Ali Larijani made the comment at fist anniversary of Press TV’s establishment, held at Foreign Ministry’s Institute for International and Political Studies (IPIS), further addressing the Americans, “You can change the region’s status, but of course not resorting to your past paradigm, but through looking at the region within a new framework and by applying new rules.”

He reiterated, “The old fashioned carrot and stick policy no longer works and you need a more realistic comprehension of the region.”

The parliament speaker added, “We believe you can be successful if you would adopt the negotiations policy, but such negotiations need to be real, and not superficial and real negotiations have rules, including seeking commonalities.”

Larijani stressed, “Iran does not want the region to suffer pains and losses, and of course, does not wish to be oppressed, either.” Still addressing the Americans, he said, “You make a mistake by staging a one thousand and one night scene every once in a while, now resorting to the negotiations policy, now speaking of the carrot and stick measure, assuming that you have changed your mentality.” The Iranian parliament speaker proposed, “It would be fine if you would choose to test us once again, in which case you might harm Iran, but also suffer serious harms.”

Larijani said, “We think you have thus far been after playing a win-loss game, while it would be better for you to enter a win-win game, in which case both you would gain its fruits, and the region would move towards peace and stability.”

The parliament speaker emphasized that Iran is seriously after peace, stability, and peaceful coexistence in the region, reiterating, “Such relations cannot be established in the region under the framework of master-slave status, the way the Americans wished to sign a security pact with Iraq, and thanks God, both the Shi’a and the Sunni leaders opposed the move.”

Larijani stressed, “If you would keep on paving the path you have trodden on thus far, you would keep creating more pains and trouble for yourselves and the region.”

He concluded his remarks advising the Americans, “You will not be able to solve your problems keeping creating problems for Iran, particularly since the Iranians have never been after creating problems for others, and always favored holding talks.”
