“After investment in the steel and power sectors, the state is now becoming a favourite ground for cement producers,” Minister of State for Industry Rajesh Munat told IANS.

Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd (GPIL) – a Raipur-based company with interest in steel, will invest Rs.6.28 billion for a cement plant and a 50 megawatt captive power plant to feed the new unit.

The other companies are Prakash Industries, Jaiswal Neco Industries, SKS Ispat and Power, Singhal Steel, Sarda Energy and Minerals, Topworth Cement, and local firm Manherukha Cement.

Government officials said Chhattisgarh’s annual cement production would increase to 50 million tonnes from 11 million tonnes after the eight units begin production.
