Lima : At least one person was killed and five others were injured after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake rocked Peru’s southern province of Arequipa, Spain’s EFE news agency reported.
Florentino Morales Cayo, 93, was fatally injured Tuesday when a wall on the second floor of his house collapsed on top of him. He died at a hospital.
The quake occurred at 0913 GMT and its epicentre was located some 720 km from the capital Lima.
Official reports said a number of homes and roads were damaged in the quake.
Last year, at least 600 people were killed and over 70,000 were displaced from their homes after a powerful quake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale jolted Peru’s southern Pacific coast.
