Ranchi : The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), a key ally of Jharkhand’s ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA), has demanded the dismissal of the Madhu Koda government following the killing of a legislator and former minister.
“President’s rule should be imposed in the state. When this government is not able to protect the lawmakers then one can imagine the plight of the common people. This is an inept government,” RJD legislator Annapurna Devi told reporters here Thursday.
Janata Dal-United (JD-U) lawmaker Ramesh Singh Munda was Wednesday shot dead by suspected Maoist rebels in a school at Bundu block of Ranchi. His two security guards and a schoolchild were also gunned down.
The Congress, another key partner for Koda, also blamed the state government for the worsening law and order situation.
“The state government is responsible for the killing of the JD-U lawmaker. What is the government is doing?” said state Congress president Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu.
“Bundu is the same area where a deputy superintendent of police rank official and four security guards were killed on June 30. From the same area Maoist rebels had looted Rs.50 million and one kg gold on may 22. When the state government cannot control one block, why should this government survive?” he asked.
Koda is an independent legislator who is running the government with the support of the RJD, Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The Congress last year had set a deadline for the chief minister to improve the law and order situation in the state, but the deadline pass without toppling him.
