India’s former chief justice Y.V. Chandrachud dead

Mumbai : Former chief justice of India Justice Y.V. Chandrachud died here Monday morning following a brief illness, an official said.

Chandrachud was 88. His son, Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud, is a judge of the Bombay High Court.

The official said Justice Chandrachud celebrated his birthday July 12 and suddenly fell ill after dinner. He was rushed to the nearby Bombay Hospital from his Colaba residence in south Mumbai. He died in the hospital at around 10.30 a.m.
