Afghanistan announces to suspend meetings with Pakistan

By Xinhua,

Kabul : Afghanistan Ministers’ Council on Tuesday announced to suspend upcoming meetings with Pakistan due to the neighbor state’s “interference into Afghan internal affairs”.

The council said in a statement that it would not attend the meetings unless “bilateral trust” was restored.

Afghanistan and Pakistan were scheduled to hold three bilateral meetings in the next five weeks in Dubai, Kabul and Islamabad, respectively to discuss anti-terrorist cooperation and trade and economic relations.

The statement was issued in the wake of increasing militancy, suicide attacks and roadside bombings that have claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people including over 700 civilians so far this year in Afghanistan.

Militants in their latest waves of violence targeted Indian embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul early last week, killing and injuring nearly 200 people with vast majority of them civilians.

Afghan government accuses Pakistan’s intelligence agency is behind the attack on India embassy but Islamabad terms such allegation groundless and rejected.
