Kolkata : Two thieves were arrested here Tuesday with more than Rs.3,40,000 in cash and 14 cameras, hours after they broke into an electronic goods shop, the police said.
“Two thieves – Zaffar Sheikh, 24, from Jharkhand and Azim Sheikh, 25, from Murshidabad district of West Bengal – were arrested Tuesday from the Vivekananda Park in south Kolkata with Rs.346,000 in cash and 14 pieces of still, handy and digital cameras,” city police deputy commissioner (south) Rajesh Subarna told reporters.
“The theft took place at Multichannel Private Limited, an electronic goods shop at Gariahat area of south Kolkata early Tuesday morning. The total theft was of Rs.536,000 in cash and 24 cameras,” Subarna added.
Police said the thieves broke into the shop by removing an air conditioner.
