Four Pandharpur pilgrims killed, 43 hurt in two mishaps

Pandharpur (Maharashtra) : Four pilgrims on their way back from the Pandharpur shrine died on the spot and 13 were injured when their high speed pick-up tempo dashed against a tree at Bhosegaon, 12 km from here in Solapur district Wednesday morning.

The mishap occurred as the driver lost control. The vehicle dashed against a rock and then hurtled to the tree, said police inspector Shankar Jharge. The injured have been admitted to the general hospital.

The vehicle, carrying 17 pilgrims, was returning to their native village Waghewadi in Raigad district after participating in Monday’s Aashadhi Ekadashi congregation in Pandharpur.

The police identified the people killed in the mishap as Tarabai Mundkar, Jambabalu Bhagat, Manjula Koli and driver Krishna Tarekar.

In another accident, 30 pilgrims to Pandharpur were injured as the state transport bus they were travelling in turned turtle at Alandgaon near Aurangabad Wednesday morning.

The injured are being treated at the sub district hospital in Sillod, about 65 km from Aurangabad, police sub inspector S.S. Sable told IANS.t
