Iran prepared to face ‘asymmetrical’ threats: Guards chief

By IANS,

Tehran : The chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IGRC) said Wednesday that his troops are well prepared to face any kind of “asymmetrical” threats be they political, cultural or military, the official IRNA news agency reported.

“The enemies of Iran are not capable of posing any direct threat or taking open action” against the country, IRGC commander Major General Mohammad-Ali Jaafari said Tuesday during a meeting of senior IRGC officials.

Jaafari also ridiculed the Israel and US threats of attacking Iran’s nuclear sites, and said they were just trying to pressurize Tehran to give up its nuclear programme.

“The US and Israel have become aware of their weakness against our country” and for that they try to put Iran under pressure through different sanctions, he said.

On Tuesday, commander of Iranian Air Force Ahmad Mighani announced that in the war game dubbed as “Protectors of Velayat Air”, Iran would demonstrate its “strength and will give the message to the enemies that in case they have the dream of any offence, they will receive a very crushing blow”.

The IRGC has just completed military maneuvres in the Gulf called “Payambar-e Azam 3” (Great Prophet 3), in which several long- and medium-range missiles were test-fired successfully.
