India, Bangla Foreign Secretaries’ meet Thursday

By NNN-PTI,

New Delhi : With Bangladeshi link being found to several terror incidents in India lately, New Delhi is expected to press Dhaka to act against such elements when the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries meet here today.

At the day-long talks between Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and his counterpart Mohd Touhid Hossain, the two sides will also discuss other cross-border crimes besides promotion of trade and commerce.

Menon is expected to take up the issue of Bangladesh being used by terrorists as a base or route to reach here and carry out anti-India activities.

A number of terror attacks that have taken place in India have had linkages in Bangladesh, causing concern here.

Infiltration by militants via the Bangladesh border is easier as it is a porous frontier, officials say.

Work is on to fence the border but there are some places where fencing cannot take place at a distance of 150 yards from the boundary as laid down by the international norms due to hill tracts and water bodies.

In this aspect, India is seeking cooperation from Bangladesh to allow it to set up the fence.

The two sides are also expected to discuss issues related to common river water sharing.
