Pakistan launches military crackdown in NW district, injuring 10

By Xinhua,

Islamabad : Pakistan security forces on Wednesday launched crackdown on militants in northwestern Pakistan’s Hangu district, leaving 10 militants injured.

The security forces started action against the militants after law order situation deteriorated in Zargari area of Hangu district of North West Frontier Province, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

The forces shelled hideouts of militants at Zargari area, and 10 militants were reportedly injured and nine houses were damaged.

Due to heavy shelling, the residents of Zargari have started migrating to safer places, the APP said. An indefinite curfew has also been imposed in Hangu district.

Hangu district has seen a spate of attacks since seven militants were arrested during an operation by security forces last week.

The local militants besieged a police station in Doaba village and took 35 policemen as hostage to demand the release of the arrested militants. But they withdrew after the security forces were deployed in the area.

On Saturday, the militants gunned down 16 paramilitary soldiers after ambushing their convoy in the Zargari area.
