Bangalore : Needing every vote to win the Lok Sabha trust vote July 22, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday phoned former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular president H.D. Deve Gowda to seek the support of his party’s three members of the house.
“The prime minister spoke to Gowda over telephone Friday morning seeking the support of the JD-S’ three members to the UPA government during the vote of confidence,” party spokesperson Y.S.V. Datta told reporters here.
Datta said he was not aware of further details of the conversation.
He claimed that the lone JD-S Lok Sabha member from Kerala, M.P. Veerendra Kumar, who split in 2006 over the party aligning with Bharatiya Janata Party to form a coalition government in Karnataka, had decided to return to the JD-S.
He would attend a meeting of the top party leaders in Delhi Saturday to decide whether to vote for or against the Manmohan Singh government.
