Chennai : Customs officials at Chennai International Airport arrested two people with ketamine tablets worth Rs.50 million Friday. The two were later produced before a court here and sent to judicial custody.
Customs officials said the suspects, identified as Hussain Abdulla, 40, from Tiruchirappalli, and Gani Abdullah Hamid, 35, from Chennai, were arrested as they were smuggling the tablets concealed in their luggage to Singapore.
According to medical experts, the contraband drug ketamine is sometimes used as an anaesthetic by terrorists to treat wounds.
Meanwhile, officials with the revenue intelligence directorate said the value of drug hauls in Chennai since the beginning of this year has so far crossed Rs.180 million.
