Abu Dhabi : A minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be tried in court on charges of betrayal of trust, swindling and criminal complicity with three other people, The National newspaper reported Friday.
This was announced by Essa Eisa Humaidan, attorney general of Dubai, the second largest emirate of the UAE, according to the report.
The charge against the minister of state, whose name was not disclosed, was filed by the widow of a Lebanese businessman in May, Humaidan said.
The woman alleged that the minister, who was her husband’s local partner when he set up a company in Dubai in 1995, took over the business when her husband died in 2005.
She accused the minister of “breaching the trust of her family’s business, including a huge property and a company based in Dubai,” Humaidan was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
The attorney general said he had heard the statements of all those involved in the case and gathered necessary evidence to proceed with the indictment.
The court is expected to fix a date for hearing of the case in the coming weeks.
