Human Rights lawyer assails Shankaracharya call to Hindus to take up arms‏

Bhopal: The citizens of India do not subscribe to the call given by the Jagat Guru, Shankaracharya of Puri, Nischalananda Saraswati, calling upon the Hindus to take arms and ammunitions and come on the road.

Advocate S. H. Iyer of Gujarat High Court in a Press release said that the statement made by the Jagat Guru Shankaracharya of Puri, is condemnable since it would totally disturb the peace and communal harmony which is getting slowly restored in Orissa and more particularly in Kandhamal District.

Needless to say that such a statement made by the Jagat Guru, Shankaracharya is absolutely against the teachings of the Adi Guru Shankaracharya who was the exponent of peace and brotherhood through his philosophy of Advita Vedanta, Iyer pointed out.

The terrorist attack by the Maoists on the innocent citizens at Malakangiri in Orissa deserves to be condemned and the State must come down heavily on the miscreants. It is the duty of the state to nab the terrorists high handedly on one hand and protect the life and liberty of the citizens on the other. It is not open for the Jagat Guru Shankaracharya to provoke the citizens to take the law in their hands and encourage armed violence, the release added. ([email protected])
