Manila : Philippine government said on Sunday it has begun implementing recovery and rehabilitation projects for people hit by typhoon “Fengshen” last month, according to a report by the official Philippines News Agency.
The government will concentrate on the projects in the provinces of southern Tagalog, Bicol and Iloilo in central Philippines, which were worst hit by the typhoon, said the report.
The government is spending millions of pesos for repairing houses and shelters, buying relief supplies and implementing livelihood assistance programs for the poor in these areas, said the report.
Typhoon “Fengshen”, locally called “Frank”, rampaged through central Philippines late last month, leaving hundreds dead and causing the capsizing of a ferry ship with more than 800 onboard, in which only 57 people are known to have survived.
