Sri Lanka Kills 66 Tamil Rebels

Colombo : The Sri Lankan Defense Ministry reported that at least 66 Tamil Rebels and 2 soldiers died during an air raid and several raids, rejecting the separatists unilateral truce.

The Liberation Tigers for the Tamil Eelam (LTTE) movement offered a ten-day ceasefire around the Fifteen Summit of Southern Asia Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) that will take place in Colombo from July 27 to August 3.

That regional southern Asian group is made up of Maldivas, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, which joined the regional group at this moment.

The Sri Lankan Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa assured that the truce announced is no more than an LTTE strategy as they are becoming weak.

Meanwhile, a dispatch spread in Colombo reported that an air raid Tuesday morning in Mullaitivu district against a rebel unit killed 22 rebels.

According to the dispatch another 44 rebels died and 90 others were wounded during clashes in the north of the country in the last 24 hours where two soldiers also died.
