New Delhi : Saying that the ‘cash for vote’ drama in parliament has exposed the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Delhi unit chief Harshvardhan said the ruling party has turned India’s democracy into a “notocracy”.
He added that the way the Congress won the trust vote Tuesday has become a subject of ridicule.
“Congress has become shameless and has changed democracy into ‘notocracy’. It is the height of falling to disgrace. They must have won technically but they are the basic losers,” Harshvardhan told IANS.
Three BJP MPs – Ashok Argal, Fagan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora – Tuesday flashed wads of currency notes in parliament, alleging that they were offered a bribe by the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition to abstain in the trust vote.
Harshvardhan said the incident strengthened the BJP’s position in the capital.
“Our stand has been vindicated. There will be no change in our strategy for the upcoming assembly elections and we will comfortably win,” he added.
Asked if the India-US nuclear deal would be an issue they would take up in the coming elections, the Delhi BJP chief said: “The nuclear deal was never an issue. We just want a deal wherein the country’s independence is not compromised.”
“Instead, the elections would be fought on issues such as price rise, inflation and security, which are close to people’s heart,” he said.
The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had to face a trust vote in parliament after the Left parties withdrew support over the nuclear deal, reducing it to a minority in parliament.
